2017 Q1 AMOLED Performance Analysis
According to UBI Research, sales of AMOLED in the first quarter of 2017 were US$ 4.31 billion, up 15% from the same quarter last year (Q1 2016). Shipments amounted to 99.1 million units, up 9% from the same period last year.
JOLED, Production of 21.6 inch OLED by the world’s first inkjet printing process
JOLED announced on last 17th that it developed the world's first 21.6 inch 4K OLED panel with RGB inkjet printing process and shipped the prototype from April. Developed by JOLED's RGB inkjet printing process, the thickness of the panel is 1.3mm, weighs 500g, brightness is 350cd/m2, and contrast ratio is 1,000,000: 1. According to JOLED, this panel was applied to medical monitors.

[SID 2017] Premium TV market, LCD vs OLED war re-ignition
In the premium TV market in 2017 OLEDs seemed to catch up early with LG Electronics' OLED TV sales volume growth and Sony's OLED TV market gains. Sony’s OLED TV, its full-fledged sales operation to start from June 10th
Sony announced on the 8th May that two models (55” and 65”) of the 4K BRAVIA OLED TV A1E series shown last Jan at CES 2017 will be launched in Japan as from June 10. Sony's BRAVIA OLED TV is equipped with LG Display's WRGB OLED, 4K high-definition processor X1 Extreme and acoustic surface technology which directly generates sound with the screen vibrating.
Fraunhofer FEP develops OLED microdisplays as high-precision optical fingerprint sensors
Fraunhofer FEP has been developing various application-specific OLED microdisplays based on OLED-on-silicon technology successfully for many years. This unique technology enables the high-precision integration of an OLED as light source on a microchip. Moreover this microchip can be designed with further sensor elements, e.g. photodiodes. By this, objects can be illuminated and at the same time the reflected light detected and analyzed. Such microdisplays can be integrated into interactive data eyeglasses as a “bi-directional microdisplay”: the tiny display projects the information for augmented-reality applications whereas the camera function detects the viewing direction – thus the content can be controlled by eye-movements.

Myeong-jin, Lee, the executive director of IR in Samsung Electronics announced that “sales volume in Q1 was recorded as 50.5 trillion won.” in the conference call of Q1, 2017 which was held on 27th, April. And “Samsung Electronics recorded 7 trillion 2900 billion won at the display area among total sales volume in the first quarter and the sales profit was 1 trillion 3000 billion won. OLED volume occupied over 60% in the total display sales volume in Q1 of Samsung Electronics.”
LG Display, 70% of facility investment focused on large-sized OLED and POLED in this year
LG Display announced that it will concentrate 70% of CAPEX(investment cost for future profits) on large-sized OLED and POLED, and among them, the proportion of POLED will be higher than that of large OLED through the 2017 Q1 conference call held on April 26.
