OLED, the mainstream of HMD devices for VR

The 'PlayX4' opening ceremony, a next-generation augmented game show, was held at Kintex exhibition hall 2, Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do on the 25th. During the event, a number of companies presented VR contents, using HMD (head mounted display) devices in application of OLED, such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear VR to improve immersion and reduce motion sickness.

2017 Q1 AMOLED Performance Analysis

According to UBI Research, sales of AMOLED in the first quarter of 2017 were US$ 4.31 billion, up 15% from the same quarter last year (Q1 2016). Shipments amounted to 99.1 million units, up 9% from the same period last year.

Sony’s OLED TV, its full-fledged sales operation to start from June 10th

Sony announced on the 8th May that two models (55” and 65”) of the 4K BRAVIA OLED TV A1E series shown last Jan at CES 2017 will be launched in Japan as from June 10. Sony's BRAVIA OLED TV is equipped with LG Display's WRGB OLED, 4K high-definition processor X1 Extreme and acoustic surface technology which directly generates sound with the screen vibrating.

LG Electronics concentrates on ‘product competitiveness not price competitiveness’ in the premium TV market

Samsung Electronics, OLED catches 60% of whole display sales

Myeong-jin, Lee, the executive director of IR in Samsung Electronics announced that “sales volume in Q1 was recorded as 50.5 trillion won.” in the conference call of Q1, 2017 which was held on 27th, April. And “Samsung Electronics recorded 7 trillion 2900 billion won at the display area among total sales volume in the first quarter and the sales profit was 1 trillion 3000 billion won. OLED volume occupied over 60% in the total display sales volume in Q1 of Samsung Electronics.”

LG Display, 70% of facility investment focused on large-sized OLED and POLED in this year

LG Display announced that it will concentrate 70% of CAPEX(investment cost for future profits) on large-sized OLED and POLED, and among them, the proportion of POLED will be higher than that of large OLED through the 2017 Q1 conference call held on April 26.
