Flexible, started to be used in the OLED lighting market

The trend toward flexible design is on the rise in the OLED lighting market, too.

At Light + Building 2018, not only LG Display but also OLEDWorks and Sumitomo Chemical exhibited flexible OLED lightings, highlighting their differentiations from LED lightings.

In particular, OLEDWorks and Sumitomo Chemical attracted a lot of attention from the audience by introducing their flexible OLED panels respectively.

OLED Works released a flexible OLED panel “Brite 3 FL300C” with thin glass. The specifications are 10,000 hours (life time) and 57 lm/W @ 8,300 cd/m2 or 50,000 hours and 63 lm/W @ 3,000 cd / m2.

Sumitomo Chemical’s flexible OLED panel was fabricated through solution process on a PI substrate, with the life time of about 20,000 hours and 50 lm/W @ 1,500 cd/m2 and is.

The two flexible OLED lighting panels introduced by the two companies, which are prototypes, are similar to the performance of LG Display’s flexible lighting OLED panel, which is currently in production, with 55 lm/W and life time of 30,000 hours. When these two companies start mass production of flexible OLEDs, it is expected to make a big change in the market of flexible OLED lighting panels.

Meanwhile, LG Display, the leader in the OLED lighting market, launched the OLED lighting brand “Luflex” last December. At Light + Building 2018, LG Display exhibited various designs of lightings that can be implemented with flexible OLED lighting panels, which attracted the biggest attention of the fair attendants. Six award-winning products of the LG OLED Design Competition 2017 were exhibited, and there were many comments that the lightings are distinguished from LED lightings by maximizing the advantages of flexible OLED lighting.

OLED lighting 시장에서도 flexible 본격화

OLED lighting 시장에서도 flexible 디자인으로의 추세가 본격화 되고 있다.

Light+Building 2018에서는 LG Display 뿐만 아니라 OLEDWorks와 Sumitomo Chemical에서도 flexible OLED lighting을 전시하며 LED 조명들과의 차별화를 부각시켰다.

특히 OLEDWorks와 Sumitomo Chemical은 flexible OLED panel을 최초로 공개해서 관람객들의 큰 이목을 끌었다.

OLED Works는 thin glass를 적용한 flexible OLED panel “Brite 3 FL300C”를 공개했다. 스펙은 1만시간과 57 lm/W@8,300 cd/m2 또는 5만시간과 63 lm/W@3,000 cd/m2 이다.

Sumitomo Chemical에서 공개한 flexible OLED panel은 PI 기판을 이용하고 solution process로 제작되었으며, 효율은 50 lm/W@1,500 cd/m2 수명은 약 2만시간 수준이다.

두 업체에서 공개한 flexible OLED lighting panel은 프로토타입으로 현재 양산을 진행중인 LG Display의 flexible lighting OLED panel의 성능인 55 lm/W, 3만시간과 비슷한 수준이다. 이 두 업체에서 flexible OLED 양산을 시작하게 된다면 flexible OLED lighting panel 시장에 큰 변화를 일으킬 것으로 기대된다.

한편 OLED lighting 시장에서 선두를 달리고 있는 LG Display는 지난해 12월 OLED lighting 브랜드인 “Luflex”를 런칭한 이 후 첫 전시회인 Light+Building 2018에서 flexible OLED lighting으로 구현할 수 있는 다양한 디자인의 조명을 전시하여 관람객 들의 큰 이목을 끌었다. LG OLED Design Competition 2017의 수상작 6종류가 전시되었으며 flexible OLED lighting의 장점을 극대화 한 디자인으로 LED 조명과의 차별화가 돋보였다는 평들이 주를 이루었다.
