[MWC 2017] Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, HUAWEI, and TCL Compete over OLED Smart Watches

In MWC 2017, the competition over smart watches proceeded fiercely.

The unveiling of Gear S3 by Samsung Electronics in the last IFA 2016 attracted great attention from the smart watch market. The disclosures of products that can compete with Samsung Electronics’ Gear S3 at MWC 2017 are gaining great popularity among viewers.

LG Electronics displayed G-Watch 2 Sports with 1.38-inch P-OLED and G-Watch Style with 1.2-inch P-OLED, HUAWEI exhibited HUAWEI Watch 2 and HUAWEI Watch 2 Classic with 1.2-inch AMOLED panel, and TCL showed MOVETIME with 1.39-inch AMOLED panel.

The smart watches shown by LG Electronics, HUAWEI, and TCL adopted flexible AMOLED (P-OLED) and circle types to save the designs of existing watches, and LG Electronics’ G-Watch 2 and HUAWEI’s HUAWEI Watch 2 can be used as devices independent of smartphones because they have separate sims.

LG Electronics’ G-Watch 2 Sports is equipped with 1.38-inch circle type AMOLED panel, Google Android Wear 2.0, 768MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, and 430mAh battery, and it supports IP68-level waterproof and dustproof functions and wireless charging function.

On the other hand, G-Watch 2 Style is equipped with 1.3-inch circle type AMOLED panel, Google Android Wear 2.0, 4GB internal memory, and 240mAh battery, and it supports IP67-level waterproof and dustproof functions.

HUAWEI Watch 2 is equipped with a 1.2-inch circle type AMOLED panel, Qualcomm® Snapdragon ™ Wear 2100, 1.1GHz quad-core CPU, Google Android Wear 2.0, 4GB internal memory, 768MB RAM, and 420mAh battery, and it supports various types of Watch face, an equippable Sim (4G), and IP68-level waterproof and dustproof functions.

Meanwhile, LG Electronics and HUAWEI devoted considerable spaces to the smartwatch exhibition at their booths in the MWC 2017 exhibition, and it suggests that there will be big changes in the smart watch market which is dominated by Samsung and Apple.

Samsung Elec. is expected to lead forward the market expansion of AR/VR, showing various AR/VR contents under developing at MWC 2017 which is being held in Barcelona, Spain from 27, Feb.

Samsung Elec. prepared the C lab exhibition hall at 4YFN in Fira Barcelona, and showed 4 types of contents for visitors such as: Relúmĭno which is a visual aids solution for Gear VR to help watching TV and reading books for persons who have low vision and blind, Monitor-less which is a VR/AR (Augmented Reality) solution that can be remotely operated for high-quality contents of PCs and smartphones, VuildUs which is a VR home interior service that experiences interior decorations in virtual reality, traVRer which is for the video travel service that helps experiencing of virtual trips by using 360-degree video watching.

Samsung Elec. is just developing for VR use now, but they revealed that Relúmĭno is being reviewed for applying to AR as a VR content effecting to the vision correction by VR algorithm that developed symptoms itself regarding to the disorder of refraction, cataracts and so on.

The principle for monitor-less is that reflects the screen of smartphones through micro OLED of the HD resolution located around the frame of glasses to its optical lens, and it is operated without a monitor of a smartphone and a PC as AR during ordinary. In addition, its merit is easy to use the VR contents by opaquely tailoring the glasses through an adaption of electro-discoloring glasses when users want.

VuildUs helps to make users arrange various furniture or do interior decorations into a virtual space through 360-degree video, and they are jointly developing contents regarding to be capable of purchasing desired items immediately in that system with architects and furniture manufacturers for commercialization.

traVRer is a content that can be freely exploring desired paths, time, positions and so on by building database based on 360-degree video which is taken from various angles, and traveling wherever you want to go into a virtual space.

These VR and AR contents revealed by Samsung Elec., are not commercialized yet, but they are catching public interests in aspects of various developments for providing convenient to users by VR and AR devices, and industries pay attention as expecting that Samsung Elec. will lead the market for contents not only for the devices of AR and VR.

MWC 2017에서는 스마트워치 경쟁도 치열하게 진행되었다.

삼성전자는 지난 IFA 2016에에서 Gear S3를 공개하며 스마트워치 시장에서 큰 관심을 불러일으켰었다. 이번 MWC 2017에서는 삼성전자의 Gear S3에 대항할 수 있는 제품들이 공개되어 관람객들의 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.

LG 전자는 1.38inch P-OLED를 적용한 G-Watch 2 Sports와 1.2inch P-OLED를 적용한 G-Watch Style을, 화웨이는 1.2inch AMOLED panel을 적용한 HUAWAI Watch 2와 HUAWAI Watch 2 Classic를, TCL은 1.39 inch AMOLED panel이 적용된 MOVETIME을 전시하였다.

LG전자와 화웨이, TCL에서 공개한 smartwatch들은 circle type으로서 기존 시계의 디자인을 살리기 위해 flexible AMOLED (P-OLED)를 적용하였으며, LG전자의 G-Watch 2와 화웨이의 HUAWAI Watch 2는 별도의 sim을 장착하여 스마트폰과 독립된 기기로 사용 가능하다.

[MWC 2017] 삼성전자, 다양한 콘텐츠로 AR/VR 시장 리딩

2월 27일부터 스페인 바르셀로나에서 개최중인 MWC 2017에서 삼성전자는 개발중인 다양한 AR/VR 콘텐츠를 선보이며, AR/VR 시장확대에 앞장 설 것으로 전망된다.

삼성전자는 피라 바르셀로나(Fira Barcelona) 4YFN관 에서 C랩 전시관을 마련하였으며, 저시력인과 시각장애인들의 독서, TV 시청 등을 돕는 기어VR용 시각보조 솔루션 ‘릴루미노(Relúmĭno)와 스마트폰과 PC의 고사양 컨텐츠를 원격으로 사용 가능한 VR/AR(증강현실) 솔루션 ‘모니터리스(Monitorless), 가상현실에서 실내 인테리어를 경험하는 VR 홈 인테리어 서비스 ‘빌드어스(VuildUs)’ 360 영상을 이어보며 가상 여행을 체험하는 360 동영상 여행 서비스 ‘트래블러(traVRer)’ 4종류의 콘텐츠를 관람객에게 선보였다.

릴루미노는 굴절 장애, 백내장 등 시각장애 증상을 자체 개발한 VR용 알고리즘으로 시력을 교정해주는 효과를 볼 수 있는 VR 콘텐츠로서 삼성전자는 현재는 VR용으로 개발하고 있지만 추후 AR에도 적용하기 위해 검토 중이라 밝혔다.

모니터리스는 스마트폰 화면을 안경 테두리에 위치한 HD 해상도의 micro OLED를 통해 안경 유리부분의 optical lens로 반사시키는 원리로, 평상시에는 AR로서 스마트폰이나 PC용 작업을 모니터 없이 할 수 있다. 또한 안경의 유리는 전기변색유리를 채용하여 사용자가 원할 때 불투명하게 조절할 수 있어 VR용 컨텐츠를 사용할 수 있다는 장점이 있다.

빌드어스와 360도 영상을 통하여 사용자가 가상의 공간에 다양한 가구를 배치하거나 새로운 인테리어를 할 수 있으며, 원하는 품목은 바로 구매까지 가능하게 하는 콘텐츠로 현재 건축업체와 가구업체등과 상용화를 위해 공동으로 개발 중에 있다.

트래블러는 여러 위치에서 촬영된 360도 영상 Database를 구축하여 사용자가 원하는 위치, 원하는 시간, 원하는 경로등을 자유롭게 탐색할 수 있어, 가본적이 없는 곳이라도 가상여행을 할 수 있는 콘텐츠이다.

삼성전자가 이번에 공개한 VR/AR 콘텐츠는 아직 상용화되지는 않았지만 VR/AR기기가 사용자들에게 편의를 제공할 수 있는 분야를 다양한 관점에서 개발하고 있다는 점에서 큰 관심을 모으고 있으며, AR/VR 디바이스 뿐만 아니라 콘텐츠 시장에서도 삼성전자가 앞장 설 것으로 업계의 관심이 주목되고 있다.

[MWC2017] 삼성전자 AMOLED 탑재 Galaxy book으로 노트북시장도 흡수

삼성전자가 AMOLED를 탑재한 Galaxy book으로 노트북 시장도 흡수할 것으로 예상된다.

2월 27일부터 스페인 바르셀로나에서 개최중인 MWC 2017에서 삼성전자는 12inch FHD AMOLED panel과 10.6inch FHD LCD를 탑재한 Galaxy book과 9.7inch QXGA AMOLED panel을 탑재한 Galaxy tap S3를 메인으로 내세웠다.

Galaxy book과 Galaxy tap S3는 휴대용 키보드와 결합하여 tablet PC 용도뿐만 아니라 노트북기능을 동시에 갖추었으며, 특히 Galaxy book은 Intel 7세대 Intel® Core^TM i5 dual core 3.1 GHz CPU와 윈도우 10 운영체제를 탑재하여 실제 노트북과 동등한 작업환경을 갖추었다. 특히 터치스크린과 0.7mm 펜촉의 혁신적인 S펜을 적용하여 기존 노트북보다 편리하고 다양한 기능들을 추가하여 사용자 편의를 추구하였다.

삼성전자 관계자는 Galaxy book을 바탕으로 tablet PC와 노트북 시장을 동시에 공략할 수 있을 것으로 예상되며, AMOLED panel의 약점인 번인현상도 노트북용도로도 사용할 수 있을 정도로 개선되었다고 밝혔다.

White 배경과 고정된 작업표시줄, 아이콘을 주로 사용하는 PC환경에서는 AMOLED panel의 번인현상으로 적용되기 어려웠었다. 하지만 2016년에 Lenovo와 hp에서 AMOLED panel을 탑재한 노트북을 출시에 이어 MWC 2017에서 삼성전자도 노트북의 기능을 모두 흡수한 Galaxy book을 출시함으로써 AMOLED panel의 번인 현상에 대한 논란을 잠재울 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

Galaxy book은 2017년 4월 북미부터 순차적으로 출시될 것으로 예상되며 가격도 기존 노트북과 비슷한 US$ 1,000 수준으로 책정될 것으로 예상되어 노트북 시장의 큰 변화를 가지고 올 것으로 전망된다.

Would it be possible to accelerate commercialization of QLED by Samsung Electronics’ acquisition of ‘QD Vision’?

According to the industry source dated Nov. 21, it was confirmed that Samsung Electronics was selected as a preferred bidder participating in the acquisition battle for ‘QD Vision’. The amount of acquisition proposed by Samsung Electronics is U$70million, and the industry expects that the final takeover will be agreed no later than the next week.

Quantum dot is the materials whose implementing color is different according to the size, and Samsung Electronics is introducing SUHD TV to the premium TV market, which improves the color reproduction rate by applying quantum dot sheet to LCD BLU for the first time in the world, and Chinese companies are actively launching the products.

‘QD Vision’ established by the researchers from MIT, is a specialized enterprise with high technology in the field of cadmium-based quantum dot and it is introducing non-cadmium-based material, too, lately. The industry considers that the acquisition of ‘QD vision’ by Samsung Electronics is the cornerstone to accelerate the commercialization of QLED along with the expansion of the quantum-dot TV market.

Although QLED is highly anticipated to be available to realize the panel with high purity as it is less impacted by oxygen and moisture than OLED and as it has a narrow half width, very low efficiency and life time compared to OLED materials are mentioned as the problem, under its initial stage of development. Furthermore, cadmium used in the core of quantum dot is highly toxic carcinogen, so Cd-free materials are being developed by ‘QD Vision’, ‘Nanoco’, ‘Nanosquare’, etc., however, its performance is lower than Cd-base materials. Therefore, the industry expects that it will take at least 5 years for QLED to be applied to mass production.

In the meantime, related with this issue, in the ‘Market penetration possibility analysis and seminar for QLED and Solution Process OLED’ hosted by UB Research in last October, Professor Chang-hee Lee of Seoul National University mentioned that, “If large-scale investment and manpower would be input, it is likely to find the product in earlier time than expected, and there is a possibility that the entry barrier can be lowered due to its similar structure to OLED”

It is highly attended that whether the acquisition of ‘QD vision’ by Samsung Electronics can accelerate the commercialization of QLED by becoming the starting point of large-scale investment, and what effect would be influenced to the display industry.

삼성전자의 QD vision 인수, QLED 상용화를 앞당길 수 있을까

21일 업계에 따르면 삼성전자는 최근 QD vision 인수전에 참여하여 우선협상 대상자로 선정 된 것으로 확인 됐다. 삼성전자가 제안한 인수금액은 7000만 달러로, 업계는 늦어도 다음 주 정도에 최종 인수에 합의 할 것으로 보고있다.

Quantum dot은 크기에 따라 구현하는 색이 다른 물질로, 삼성전자는 세계 최초로 LCD BLU에 quantum dot sheet를 적용하여 색재현율을 향상시킨 SUHD TV를 프리미엄 TV 시장에 선보이고 있으며, 중국업체들도 적극적으로 제품 출시를 하고 있다.

MIT 출신 연구자들이 설립한 QD vision은 카드뮴계 quantum dot 분야에서 기술력이 높은 전문 기업으로 최근에는 비카드뮴 소재도 선보이고 있다. 업계에서는 삼성전자의 QD vision 인수가 quantum dot TV 시장의 확대와 함께, QLED 상용화를 앞당기기 위한 초석으로 보고있다.

QLED는 OLED에 비해 산소와 수분의 영향이 적고, 반치폭이 좁아 고색순도의 패널 구현이 가능할 것으로 기대를 모으고 있지만, 개발 초기단계로 OLED 재료와 비교하여 매우 낮은 효율과 수명이 문제점으로 언급되고 있다. 또한 quantum dot 중심체에 쓰이는 카드뮴은 유독성이 강한 발암물질로, QD vision과 Nanoco, Nanosquare 등에서 Cd-free 물질을 개발 중이나 카드뮴 소재에 비해 성능이 낮다. 따라서 업계에서는 QLED가 양산에 적용되기까지는 최소 5년 이상 걸릴 것으로 예상하고 있다.

한편, 이와 관련해 서울대 이창희 교수는 지난 10월 유비산업리서치가 주관한 ‘QLED와 solution Process OLED 시장 진입 가능성 분석 및 세미나’에서 “대규모의 투자와 인력이 투입된다면 예상보다 이른 시기에 제품을 볼 수 있을 것으로 보이며, OLED와 구조가 비슷하여 진입 장벽이 낮아 질 가능성이 있다” 라고 언급했다.

삼성전자의 QD vision 인수가 대규모 투자의 시발점이 되어 QLED 상용화를 앞당길 수 있을지, 그리고 디스플레이 산업에 어떠한 영향을 미칠지 귀추가 주목되고 있다.

[IFA2016]Samsung Electronics states to completely leave OLED TV!

After two and a half years have passed since the CES 2014, where Samsung Electronics expressed that it would need about three more years to develop OLED TV due to its insufficient technology at the time, in IFA 2016t it has strongly emphasized that it will not be engaging in OLED TV business.

Recently, in an interview with a local press, Samsung Electronics stated that there were still problems with the definition of the OLED TV and that it will continue engaging in the TV business with QLED TV within the near future.

In IFA2016, it revealed Samsung Electronics’ thoughts on the past, present, and future of TVs.

Based on the materials provided at Samsung’s booth, LCT TVs of the past have extended their legacies into LED TVs, and in the future they will evolve into quantum dot TVs that use inorganic materials. Moreover, in the same manner as PDP TVs which have disappeared from the TV market OLED TVs will disappear after having reached the level of curved FHD TV.

Looking at this material, it seems like Samsung Electronics is not paying attention to other LCD TV sets but only LG Electronics’ OLED TVs.

As a matter of fact, it is natural for Samsung Electronics’, the no.1 market leader of TV market, to be disturbed by LG Electronics’ OLED TV which is expanding its market share in the premium TV market. However, at this point where 55-inch and 65-inch UHD OLED TVs are selling well, whether Samsung Electronics’ display contents were legitimate is questionable.

Presenting negative views regarding competitors is acceptable in terms of marketing, but at this display it seemed to be excessive. Also, Samsung Electronics even provided durability comparisons between inorganic TVs (Quantum dot TV) and OLED when inorganic TVs do not even exist.

The main point of the comparison was that the colors of OLED TVs change severely according to the passing of time whereas inorganic TVs do not.

Contents from a U.S. consumer report website were still being displayed as follows. In the “best TV 5” of 2015, there are three LG Electronics’ OLED TVs, and no.1 was the 65-inch UHD OLED TV.

The end of OLED TVs is not likely to come as fast as what Samsung Electronics predict. It is just the beginning for OLED TVs.

Samsung Elec. announced its earnings guidance for the second quarter of 2016.

Samsung Elec. estimates that consolidated sales came to approximately KRW 50 trillion, and consolidated operating profit of approximately KRW 8.1 trillion.

The above figures are estimates of consolidated earnings based on K-IFRS. Korean disclosure regulations do not allow earnings estimates to be provided as a range. Therefore, the above figures are based on the median of the earnings estimate range, as given below.

삼성전자가 더욱 새로워진 피트니스 웨어러블 기기 ‘기어 핏(Gear Fit)2’를 21일 오전 10시부터 사전 판매한다.

‘기어 핏2’ 사전 판매는 222대 한정으로 진행되며, 삼성 온라인 스토어(http://store.samsung.com/sec)에서 진행된다. 출고가는 19만 8,000원이다.

사전 판매는 블랙 색상 한정으로 진행되며 손목 둘레에 따라 스몰, 라지 사이즈를 선택할 수 있다.

사전 판매를 통해 구매한 고객 전원에게는 ‘기어 핏2’의 단독 MP3 재생 기능을 자유롭게 이용할 수 있도록 목걸이형 블루투스 헤드셋 ‘레벨 U 프로’를 증정한다.

지난 2일 미국 뉴욕에서 공개된 ‘기어 핏2’는 전작 ’기어 핏’ 보다 한층 강화된 피트니스 기능과 세련된 디자인으로 화제를 모으고 있다.

Samsung Electronics today announced that its TV PLUS service is now available in Thailand and Vietnam on 2016 Samsung Smart TV UHD Models. All other Smart TV models, including Full HD Smart TVs, will be supported by the end of June. This service enables users to find exciting video clips by simply moving to designated channels, instead of having to toggle between different apps.

As a part of the TV PLUS upgrade, users in Thailand and Vietnam will automatically receive four popular Korean Pop channels of CJ E&M’s ‘Tving TV’ including Awesome Singers (Channel 101/555), KPOP Boy Group Stage (Channel 102/556), KPOP Girl Group Stage (Channel 103/557), and M Countdown (Channel 104/558). Further ahead in 2016, Samsung plans to collaborate with additional global and local content partners to expand the channels and variety offered on the service.

The intelligent trousers, which combine the latest in high-tech with high fashion, were designed to address the pain points of everyday apparel. Key Internet of Trousers functions include:

Keep-Your-Pants-On Mode: Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with the moment. The Samsung Bio-Processor in your pants checks your bio-data including your heart rate and perspiration level. If these indicators get too high, Samsung’s trousers will send you subtle notifications as a reminder of the importance of keeping your cool.
Fridge Lock: If the tension around your waist gets too high, the embedded ARTIK chip module will send signals to your refrigerator to prevent you from overeating. The fridge door lock can then only be deactivated with consent from a designated person such as your mother or significant other.

The Internet of Trousers, and all related products and features, are not actual Samsung products or concepts – at least not yet!

삼성전자, 중국에서 ‘삼성 페이’ 서비스 시작

삼성전자가 중국에서 ‘삼성 페이’ 서비스를 시작한다고 29일발표했다. 삼성페이는 이날 부터 중국의 유니온 페이와 손잡고 중국에서 ‘삼성 페이’ 서비스를 시작한다.

모바일 결제 서비스 ‘삼성 페이’는 중국 전역에서 유니온 페이의 신용카드와 체크카드를 모두 지원할 예정이다. ‘삼성 페이’는 현재 공상 은행, 건설 은행, 중신 은행 등 중국 내 주요 9 개 은행의 신용 카드와 체크 카드를 지원하며, 중국 은행, 북경 은행 등 6 개 은행이 추가될 예정이다.

중국 ‘삼성 페이’는 ‘갤럭시 S7 엣지’, ‘갤럭시 S7’, ‘갤럭시 S6 엣지+’, ‘갤럭시 노트 5’ 등을 통해 사용이 가능하며, 향후 지원 가능한 다양한 제품이 지속 출시될 예정이다. 또한, 중국 소비자들에게 더 많은 혜택과 서비스를 제공하기 위해 유니온 페이를 포함한 다양한 파트너사들과 협력을 더욱 강화하고, 중국 모바일 결제 시장의 혁신을 주도 할 예정이다.

Samsung Electronics and China UnionPay (CUP) announced the launch of Samsung Pay in China. A simple, safe and easy-to-use mobile payment service, Samsung Pay works virtually anywhere you can swipe or tap your card in China. Samsung Pay will enable users to safely manage and use their debit and credit cards on eligible Samsung mobile phones with CUP.

In term of safety, Samsung Pay has three layers protection, which are fingerprint authentication, tokenization and KNOX. Samsung Electronics Announces Flexible Price Strategy for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in H2

On July 30, Samsung Electronics announced their second quarter earnings results and future outlook via conference call.

The sales of IM (Information Technology and Mobile Communications) department recorded approximately US$ 13,000,000,000, a 1% increase from the previous quarter. The business profit of approximately US$ 2,000,000,000 was recorded, an increase of US$ 17,000,000.

Although the overall sales increased through Galaxy S6 release, due to the supply issues of Galaxy S6 Edge, and increase in marketing cost, the business profit did not much increase. Samsung Elec. explained that due to the decrease in sales of low-mid-price old models, degrowth was shown compared to the previous quarter. However, ASP was much improved due to product mix development.

Robert Yi, chief of the firm’s investor relations team, revealed that 89,000,000 units of mobile phones and 8,000,000 units of tablets were sold in the second quarter. The ASP of these products recorded mid US$ 200s. Of the mobile phone sales, the percentage of smartphone sales was in low 80s.

Yi announced their plan to increase the market share through flexible price strategy for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the second half and strengthening of low-to-mid price smartphone line up. He also mentioned that enlargement of display size and AMOLED panel use could occur for future lower priced items.

The price of Galaxy S6 Edge that exceeded US$ 1,200 initially, recorded US$ 739 in the second week of July. If the currently operational A3 line yield improves and investment for transforming part of rigid A2 line to flexible occurs, flexible AMOLED panel’s mass production capa. will increase from the second half. This will simplify AMOLED panel supply process, and it is analyzed that the flexible price strategy for Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be feasible.

For the display section, it was revealed that the results were slow compared to the previous quarter due to increase of cost from new flexible display line ramp up and decrease in smartphone demand. Samsung Elec. explained that in the second half, they are planning to increase the market leadership through flexible technology improvement. The new growth power will be achieved through development of new applications such as transparent, mirror, and head mounted display.

Samsung Elec. revealed that there was difficulty in acquiring initial supply regarding the Galaxy S6 Edge. They explained that this was due to the use of new technology, including the large area evaporation technology of A3 line that began operation in April this year. However, the problem has now been solved and reliable supply is possible, and the firm revealed the possibility of supply of flexible OLED panel to external companies. The panels will be supplied to meet the needs of client and market, and some capa. establishment will also occur next year. Product performance and production cost competitiveness are improving, and the firm revealed strategy of increasing the OLED panel sales to external companies this year.

During this conference call, Samsung Elec. revealed that the total sales was recorded to be approximately US$ 41,000,000,000 in second quarter of this year which is a 3% increase compared to the previous quarter. The business profit recorded approximately US$ 6,000,000,000, an increase of 15% compared to the previous quarter.

7월 30일 삼성전자는 30일 2분기 실적발표 컨퍼런스콜을 개최하여 자사의 경영실적과 차후 전망을 공개하였다.

IM(정보기술 및 모바일)부문은 매출액 26조 600억원로 전분기대비 1% 상승하였으며 영업이익 2조7600억원을 달성하여 전분기에 비해 200억 증가하였다고 발표하였다.

‘갤럭시S6’ 출시로 전체 매출액은 높아졌지만, ‘갤럭시S6엣지’ 공급 차질과 마케팅 비용 상승 등으로 영업이익은 별로 늘지 않았다. 삼성전자는 중저가 구모델의 판매 감소로 전분기 대비 역성장을 하였지만 제품믹스 개선으로 ASP가 큰 폭으로 개선하였다고 설명하였다.

이명진 삼성전자 전무는 “2분기에 휴대폰 8천900만대, 태블릿 800만대를 판매했다”고 밝혔다. 이들 제품의 평균 판매단가(ASP)는 US$ 220대 중반을 기록했다. 휴대폰 판매량 중 스마트폰의 비중은 80% 초반대라고 설명했다.

또한 이명진 전무는 하반기 Galaxy S6와 S6 Edge의 탄력적인 가격운영과 중저가 스마트폰 라인업 보강으로 시장 점유율을 높이겠다는 계획을 밝혔다. 향후 출시될 저가형 제품에도 화면의 대형화와 AMOLED panel 탑재가 될 수 있다고도 언급했다.

출시 초기 약 US$ 1,200을 넘었던 Galaxy S6 Edge의 가격은 7월 2주차 기준 US$ 739로 떨어진 상태이다. 현재 가동 중이 A3라인의 수율이 향상되고 기존 rigid용 A2라인의 일부를 flexible로 전환하는 투자가 진행되어 하반기부터는 flexible AMOLED panel의 양산 capa.가 증가한다면 flexible AMOLED panel의 물량확보가 더욱 용이해져, 삼성전자가 의도하는 Galaxy S6와 S6 Edge의 탄력적인 가격운영이 가능할 것으로 분석된다.

DP부문에서 OLED는 신규 플렉시블 디스플레이 라인 램프업에 따른 비용증가 및 스마트폰 물량 감소의 영향으로 전분기 대비 실적이 둔화되었다고 밝혔다. 하반기에는 플렉시블 기술수준의 향상을 통해 시장 리더십을 높이고 투명, 미러, 헤드마운트 디스플레이 등의 신규 어플리케이션을 개발하여 신성장동력을 확보할 것이라고 설명하였다.
